I was born in 1994 in the European side of Istanbul. When I was around 12 years old I grew an interest in writing graffiti. After a couple of exercises with pen and paper I decided to test my skills on walls, needless to say, I painted and tagged my room's walls with spray paint. This journey lasted approximately 2 years an during this time I also trained for the high school entrance exam. I got accepted in the Deutsche Schule Istanbul(German Highschool Istanbul)and I learned the German language there. During my high school years I attended an art studio where I learned how to draw and design. I created a portfolio, mostly consisting of traditional art, such as still life and figure drawings, as well as graphic design. After graduating from high school I went to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During my first semester there I continued doing art with traditional methods, however after the first semester my interests shifted towards new media art. I produced artworks that incorporate web technologies, sound, and video. I also produced and performed with live audio-visual setups, as well as organized events that host musicians, sound, and performance artists in various event spaces in Chicago. During my studies I also worked as a teaching assistant. To this day, helping and guiding others is still one of my greatest passions. Post-graduation I volunteered at organizations and music studios for their events, gave artist talks and workshops in SAIC as well as in the University of Chicago. Meanwhile I worked as an artist and gallery assistant. After I completed an extra year of work overseas I returned back to Istanbul and worked in various jobs holding multiple different titles such as Gallery Assistant, UI, UX and Web Designer, Translator(German, English, Turkish), and also Assistant Merchandiser. During all these jobs I found a common trait of mine: I liked to create and systemize and find novel ways to accomplish tasks. I applied this skillset to my artworks and began developing code-based projects. For almostt a year I have been using p5.js to create graphic artworks and and creating web pages to display them.
Although most of my recent works are experimental and system-based, some of my previous works are evocative and playful. With my sound and video based works I tend to create atmospheres for the viewers where they can get lost in. Finding meaning, or losing of meaning are at the heart of my work; sometimes things make sense, sometimes they are just there for some unknown reason. I will keep creating artworks that challenge common notions of art, while helping communities around this topic.
