Alp Seyrekbasan is an interdisciplinary media artist from Istanbul, working with sound, video, and new media technologies to construct evocative yet thoughtful spaces and commentaries. His latest artworks Transfixation and Democracy Watch use audio recordings from July 15th coup attempt to conceptualize the meaning and feeling of sounds heard within the coup and post-coup socio-political state of Turkey. 'What does the sound I hear mean? What are the implications and the interpretations of this heard sound? How does it relate to me, myself, my body, my homeland?' are the common questions explored in these works.
Alp is currently living in Chicago, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017. Meanwhile he is preparing for upcoming projects.
He also designs, codes, and makes music.
